Trade Tsunami: A deal has been concluded between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Columbus Blue Jackets To Trade….
Patrik Laine, a winger who is 26 years old and sought a trade at the beginning of June, has been the subject of attempts by the Columbus Blue Jackets to offload him. In light of Laine’s participation in the NHL/NHLPA player aid programme, these efforts continue to be challenging. The Jackets have the ability to move him while he is still a member of the programme; however, clubs that are interested in him must first speak with him. Additionally, Laine is considered to be on a 10-team no-trade list and has a yearly salary cap charge of $8.7 million until the 2024-25 season.
According to a report that was published on July 14 by Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the Jackets are still waiting for updates regarding when Laine will be freed from the programme. Up until that point, neither they nor any other club will be able to communicate with him personally. As a result of teams obtaining other players through trades and free agency, Portzline believes that the moment has come to transfer Laine. Despite this, Portzline said that General Manager Don Waddell is still optimistic, stating that there are still teams interested in the former 44-goal scorer.
With the free-agent market having been drained, Waddell believes that clubs may return to the trade market in order to acquire players. The Columbus Blue Jackets are poised to enter a new era, according to the National Hockey League Prospect Pool Overview 2024-25. While this was going on, Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet noted that Morgan Frost was constantly mentioned in the rumour mill throughout the previous season. With the dust having cleared in the free-agent market, he pondered whether or not a competing club might investigate the availability of the centre, who was 25 years old. During the previous season, Frost found himself in the head coach John Tortorella’s dog house on occasion.
Despite this, the Flyers have not given any indication that they are willing to transfer him quickly. To turn our attention to the Vegas Golden Knights, they recently caused a stir by sending Logan Thompson to the Washington Capitals and replaced him with Ilya Samsonov, who is a free agent. As their goaltender combination for this season, they are left with Samsonov, who is prone to making mistakes, and Adin Hill, who is currently dealing with a number of injuries. In July of next year, both of them will be eligible for UFA status.
Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is of the opinion that Hill needs to demonstrate that he is capable of maintaining his health throughout the entirety of the season, while Samsonov needs to recover from a disappointing performance with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was hypothesised by Webster that the Golden Knights would look for a new starter in the event that Hill does not perform well enough to warrant an extension of his contract. They might try to find a successor on the UFA market that will take place in the summer of next year or before the trade deadline in March. There is a possibility that Linus Ullmark will be traded if he and the Ottawa Senators are unable to reach an agreement on extending his contract. John Gibson, who plays for the Anaheim Ducks, is another possibility.
