For a significant chunk of the regular season, the Phillies were among baseball’s top clubs. They ended up with their best record since 2011 and their first National League East title since that year.

However, despite reaching the World Series in 2022 and making it back to the NLDS the following season, the Philadelphia Phillies were ousted in four games by the New York Mets in a dominating display.

Dave Dombrowski is aware that he can’t do nothing to retool the offense this winter. However, with key players already in place in the infield, it appears like the outfield is where he can make the most impact.

According to an article by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, the team is reportedly planning to trade or bench players Johan Rojas and Brandon Marsh in favor of an outside acquisition. Adams describes the rumors surrounding the upcoming moves and where the team is poking around.

“… the Phils aren’t likely to simply roll the same lineup back out in 2024 after another shorter-than-hoped season,” according to him. Since Rojas is more skilled on defense, he bats right-handed, and Marsh bats left-handed, the two may form a platoon. The rumor mill has been running wild about deals due to Dombrowski’s “open-minded” attitude to revamping his lineup, but that would only make room for one new outfielder.

Fans will naturally associate the highly sought-after free agent Juan Soto with thoughts of offensive revamping and the need to bolster the lineup with an outfielder.

Although it appears to be a contest between the New York Yankees and the Mets, the Phillies could still be a key player for Soto.

Philadelphia is targeting a talent-rich market, so even if they don’t acquire Soto, they should be closely monitored as they pursue other quality outfielders.
