After a nail-biting game on Sunday night, the Philadelphia Phillies were able to walk off the New York Mets and tie the National League Division Series at 1-1.
Considering that the Phillies have been struggling to find their footing over the previous several weeks, this might be all that is required for them to emerge victorious in this series against the Mets.
Either because they have won a World Series or because a club like Philadelphia has sucked the life out of their locker room, their hot streak will eventually come to a stop at some point in the future.
This was a start in the right direction for the Phillies, and they will need to continue playing in this manner moving ahead. However, this is much easier to say than it is to do. It is expected that they will be in a favorable position if their offense continues to score runs.
When they travel to Queens on Tuesday night for Game 3, they will face a number of hurdles.
One of the pitchers that Philadelphia will face is Sean Manaea, who has a remarkable 3.60 earned run average and has struck out 184 batters in 181 and a half innings pitched.
During his most recent outing, which took place on September 21, he pitched against the Phillies and allowed only three earned runs in 7.0 innings.
Over the course of three and a half innings pitched against Philadelphia in June, the left-handed pitcher allowed six earned runs. This is a positive indicator for New York, as they are looking to get him out of the game early and make use of their bullpen.
It has been an interesting first two games of the National League Division Series, and it is expected to continue to get better as the Mets and Phillies hope to get to three victories first.
It seems like this game is as much of a must-win as there will be in this series, especially considering that Aaron Nola is going to be playing for Philadelphia.
