Trenton Irwin is their first attempt to bolster the roster surrounding Bryce Young. The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Carolina Tar Heels will add former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Irwin to their practice squad with the intention of quickly promoting him to the regular roster. Irwin had three receptions for fifteen yards in 2024. Following his release from Cincinnati last week, the dependable slot target is now available for signing by any team. The Panthers' wide receiver room is in dire need of a replacement after Jalen Coker's injury and Xavier Legette's difficulties. While Adam Thielen is consistently Bryce Young's most reliable target, there is a lot of inconsistency surrounding him. Carolina didn't stop at adding Irwin this afternoon. The Panthers have reportedly activated Velus Jones, per B/R's Jordan Schultz. The Panthers will gain a return dynamo in Jones, a former receiver for the Chicago Bears who is now with the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad.
