Changes may not be slowing down for the Chicago Bulls just yet, as they appear to be entering a rebuilding phase.
The Bulls are reportedly looking into trade possibilities for center Nikola Vucevic and guard Zach LaVine this season, according to ESPN’s Jamal Collier. Meanwhile, after having underwhelming seasons in 2023–24, the Bulls are concentrating on getting better play from these two players.
Given that the Bulls sought out trade possibilities for LaVine prior to the NBA draft, this revelation does not come as a complete surprise. Thanks to the team’s inability to locate a suitable trade partner, LaVine will remain in Chicago for a record-tying eighth consecutive season.
Due to a thigh injury, LaVine has been out for the past two games. However, the 29-year-old is leading the team in scoring (22.7 ppg), rebounding (5.5 rbs), and assist (2.7 avg) through six games.
Even though it never materialized, trade rumors surfaced during the offseason suggesting the Bulls were interested in trading Vucevic. The 34-year-old center is playing for the Chicago Bulls for the fourth consecutive season. Vucevic has averaged 20.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game through eight games.
After beginning the season with a record above.500 for the first time in two years, the Bulls are now 3-5. They haven’t been in the playoffs since the 2021–22 season, so they’re hoping to break that streak this year. Since the 2014–15 season, the Bulls have failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs.
