The offensive line has struggled for the Las Vegas Raiders a lot in the first two games, especially when attempting to run the football. Rookie left guard Jackson Powers-Johnson will make his Raiders debut on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, with numerous starting jobs up for grabs.

Unfortunately, an unidentified ailment kept the Draper, Utah native out of action for the first two weeks of the regular season and the whole preseason.

Powers-Johnson, a second-round selection from the University of Oregon, is a total offensive line wrecker from his time with the Ducks. The Rimington Trophy, which goes to the top center in FBS college football, was won by him in 2023.

Powers-Johnson is switching from center to left guard, but based on what he said at the press conference on Friday, head coach Antonio Pierce is eager to watch Powers-Johnson play for the first time in the Silver and Black.

“We’ll see, are we all thinking correctly?” stated Pierce. “He wasn’t there for the preseason, and we haven’t had a chance to suit him up and prepare him for action in the opening two games.

He had an excellent practice week last week; if you watched the games, you could see that he was one of the bigger players, igniting the crowd on the sidelines. Looking forward to witnessing that energy, that youthful fountain of youth, and that clear aggression that he possesses. I’ll be looking directly at him when he enters the game.

Powers-Johnson answered a question about his position on Sunday in an approach that was both humble and assured for someone who hasn’t played a live snap in the NFL. Just what you would expect from a novice.

Powers-Johnson remarked, “I feel like I can help in any way that I can.” They selected me based on my demeanor and physique, and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I promise to give it my all and make a contribution if I’m out there.

Who will make up the Raiders’ solid starting offensive line for the remainder of the season is still up in the air. Powers-Johnson has an opportunity to shock not just the Raiders franchise but the NFL as a whole.
