The question of which player, Caitlin Clark or Paige Bueckers, is the better basketball player is one that many in the world of women’s basketball tend to argue about in an endless manner.

This debate began several years ago, when Bueckers and Clark were among the top four best players in the fabled 2020 NCAA recruiting class, according to ESPN. Angel Reese and Cameron Brink were also among the top four best players in the class.

The number one place was held by Bueckers, while Clark was ranked fourth. And this debate only became more heated after Clark and Bueckers ended up sharing the National Freshman of the Year Award during that 2020-21 season. However, Bueckers was the first freshman in the history of the NCAA to win the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the player who is considered to be the best in women’s college basketball each season.

Two years later, Bueckers is widely considered to be the best player in college basketball, while Clark is already regarded as one of the top five players in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

During ESPN’s coverage of the men’s NCAA game between Michigan State and Kansas, the subject of these two idols was brought up, and ESPN commentator Jay Bilas expressed an intriguing sentiment about the situation.

According to X user @nosyone4, Bilas stated, “I know one person who thinks that Paige Bueckers is better than Caitlin Clark was.” Geno Auriemma is the single person who has this opinion.

His broadcast partner Dan Schulman said, “Well, he’s got a vested interest in that,” referring to the situation.

“[Bueckers] is spectacular,” Bilas remarked at that point. “I wouldn’t go so far as saying better, but she’s going to be the force — her and JuJu Watkins at USC — the two forces and faces in the game.”
