Kristin Johnson, Johnson’s widow, along with her daughters Carson and Piper, made the announcement of the diagnosis on Wednesday. The Concussion Legacy Foundation was the organisation that made the announcement. Johnson, who was originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, ended his life by taking his own life after playing in the National Hockey League for a total of fourteen seasons. This occurred five years ago.

He was a member of the Predators from the years 1998 until 2006, during which time he held the position of captain of the team for the second time in its history. A number of teams, including Detroit, Chicago, and Pittsburgh, were among those for whom he played. As stated in a release, Kristin Johnson mentioned that the diagnosis of chronic traumatic encephalopathy “took her breath away.” Her statement also included the fact that Greg Johnson experienced very few symptoms, despite the fact that he constantly addressed his concussions.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative disorder that can occur in individuals who have suffered several concussions or severe brain injuries. These individuals are at risk for acquiring CTE.
