Kevin Durant will miss the next two weeks of action due to a calf strain; he will be re-evaluated later on. This will leave the Phoenix Suns short-handed. Having said that, the Suns are 9-2 heading into Wednesday, so they’re off to a great start. Under Mike Budenholzer’s tutelage, Phoenix’s depth has flourished despite a couple players coping with injuries.

Can they maintain their impressive start? This week, the Suns continue to hold a respectable position in most national power rankings. Please be aware that the completion of some of these power rankings occurred prior to Tuesday’s victory over the Sacramento Kings.

NBA.com ranks third
Eight of the Suns’ ten games have come down to the final five minutes, according to John Schuhmann. Durant has a 12-for-19 record on clutch shots, including two crucial buckets last week against the Sixers and the Heat. In Friday’s dramatic win in Dallas, he went 2-for-7 on key 3-pointers, but one of them made was a totally unconcerned pull-up over an earnest contest from Daniel Gafford. Despite Durant’s perfect record in clutch games, the Suns’ seven-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday as they were unable to come up with late stops against the Kings. The Kings scored 26 points on 16 critical possessions.

Number four in the Arizona Republic
According to Duane Rankin, Kevin Durant’s left calf strain will keep him out of action for at least the next six Suns games. On Sunday, in overtime, the team lost to the Sacramento Kings, their first home loss. Jusuf Nurkic is dealing with ankle problems, Bradley Beal played through an injury he sustained in overtime, and Devin Booker is battling with an illness. During their four-game road trip, the Suns will put their depth to the test.

Fifth place: The Athletic
The Suns’ loss to the Sacramento Kings in overtime on Sunday was their first game without injured star Kevin Durant (calf), according to Law Murray. However, four of Phoenix’s eight victories have been decided by a score of three points or less. With seven wins and two more victories than any other club in the league in clutch time games, which are defined as games with a margin of five points or fewer in the last five minutes of regulation or overtime, the Suns are unrivaled.

Yahoo! Ranks Fifth
The 36-year-old Kevin Durant suffered a calf strain when coach Mike Budenholzer declared, “That’s my problem” in response to Durant’s heavy minute workload (Ruhrbach, 36). “That, in my opinion, is still an ongoing effort,” Coach Bud continued.

Five ClutchPoints
That Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Tyus Jones are all healthy is great news for Phoenix, according to Brett Siegel, and it’s also the reason they’ve managed to stay in the top five of the NBA power rankings. Despite Sunday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings, these three played well in Durant’s absence and scored 73 points between them. The Suns’ defense, with Royce O’Neale and Ryan Dunn in the wing positions, will be their strongest suit without Durant.

NBC: Sixth
Tim McMenamin: “With Kevin Durant out last week with a left calf strain, rookie Ryan Dunn was pushed into the starting lineup. Even though Phoenix lost in overtime against the Kings on Sunday, Dunn had a valuable contribution in 21 minutes, scoring 8 points on 4-of-7 shooting while also grabbing a steal and blocking a shot. While their superstar calf heals, the Suns will need Dunn’s help to remain near the top of a tough conference. Before Durant’s injury, the Suns were tied for first place in the West.
