For Sunday’s matchup with the Patriots at Soldier Field, linebacker Carl Jones Jr. and tackle Jake Curhan were promoted from the practice squad. Last week, Curhan was also active because injuries allowed him to play.

Jones is making his professional debut for the Chicago Bears after going undrafted as a linebacker from UCLA. Between his time at Boise State and UCLA, he recorded 78 tackles. The addition of Jones is essential for special teams and backup reasons due to the injury that linebacker Noah Sewell sustained.

Following the first victory over Tennessee, Bates was placed on injured reserve due to elbow and shoulder problems.

Following coach Matt Eberflus’s announcement that Bates will be lifted from injured reserve, Bates expressed his frustration about the situation on Friday. There hasn’t been a situation like this one where I’ve been on IR before. I am new to this IR platform. This injury is the first of its sort to effectively sideline me from a number of games.

I had to work on my mental toughness and get into the appropriate frame of mind from the beginning, so it was a valuable learning experience for me. Being outside was all I wanted. All I wanted to do was play with the lads. Everybody is familiar with the situation.

In the event that Bates takes over at right guard, Matt Pryor would probably be moved to either right or left tackle by the Bears. Also making an appearance this week is Larry Borom, the backup who started last week at left tackle for Braxton Jones (who is out with a knee injury) and will likely see action this week.

Alternatively, you may play Curhan at right tackle instead of Bates, which would be a single change from last week’s team. Last week, Curhan played in 17 snaps. Darnell Wright, the starting right tackle, hurt his knee last week.
