Carlos Mendoza, the manager of the team, has informed the media that the starting pitcher for Game 1 will be Kodai Senga, an outstanding pitcher, contrary to the rumors that southpaw David Peterson or righty Tylor Megill would be the one to take the mound.

As Senga’s eligibility for the postseason was unknown up until Friday, this comes as a bit of a surprise to those who were following the situation. As a result of injuries to his shoulder, triceps, and calf, the outstanding pitcher for the Mets was only able to pitch for 5.1 innings throughout the regular season. Ever since the 26th of July, when he faced the Atlanta Braves, he has not pitched in the major leagues.

On the 21st of September, Senga made one rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse with the hopes of returning to the Mets’ rotation for the last week of the regular season. The tightness in his triceps, on the other hand, significantly delayed his comeback.

According to Mendoza, Senga had been in Florida seeing hitters and had approached the Mets on Wednesday to advise them that he was able to pitch. Mendoza disclosed this information.

Mendoza stated, “We’ll see,” when asked about the length of time Senga will be able to continue pitching. However, considering that the right-handed pitcher is not stretched out, it is feasible that Peterson and/or Megill might accompany Senga in extended relief. Depending on the circumstances, Senga might pitch one to two innings for the Mets.

In addition, the Mets have revealed that right-handed pitcher Luis Severino will be given normal rest in order to start Game 2 on Sunday. In the first game of the National League Wild Card series, which took place on Tuesday, Severino was victorious by pitching and surrendering four runs over the course of six innings against the Milwaukee Brewers.
