After winning his second consecutive All-Australian title at Alberton, Houston is reportedly eager to return to his home state of Victoria this year, despite his 2027 contract with the Power. Carlton, Collingwood, and St. Kilda are just a few of the clubs in his native state that have shown serious interest in the Oakleigh Chargers product, the speedy backman.
According to AFL.com.au, all three teams including the Western Bulldogs have allegedly visited with Houston, and the Roos have joined the party in the hopes of acquiring the 27-year-old. According to Gettable reporter Callum Twomey, the Kangaroos have extended an offer to the Houston Dynamo for their first-round draft choice, which may be one of the first choices made at the 2019 Australian Football League draft.
For his part, Dan Houston is eager to reach Victoria. Four teams have been interested in signing him. Which one is the worst? Twomey mentioned Carlton, St. Kilda, Collingwood, and the Western Bulldogs. “He had meetings with all four of those teams not long ago; in fact, he met with them all on the same day. The question is whose choice it is to placate the Power.
A first-round pick from North Melbourne’s future draft, which is expected to be in the top six or so next year, has been offered. He has not been contacted by [North Melbourne]. Given the draft standard, the port is prioritizing the 2024 pool for picks this year.
There have been rumors that the Power are interested in acquiring a number of first-round draft picks. However, they may be influenced by the Roos’ opening selection and the inferior possibilities offered by other interested clubs in next year’s intake, which might make them reconsider.
While the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood do not have first-round draft picks at the moment, Carlton is aiming to maintain their position at the top of the list for this year’s draft. St. Kilda might improve their draft position for the November count if they receive band one compensation for the loss of Josh Battle, a free agent. They hold early picks in 2024 and 2025.
The Roos aren’t just eyeing Houston as a potential opponent to add experience to their roster; senior players Luke Parker and Jack Darling, who are under contract, are expected to transfer from Sydney to North Melbourne this off-season. Although they are both contracted for the 2025 season, Twomey says the two premiership players are likely to be wearing blue and white for the Roos that year, where they can assist coach Alastair Clarkson’s youthful team.
“It would be shocking if those two players aren’t at North Melbourne next year,” Twomey said of Darling and Parker, given the current trajectory of events. Luke Parker is willing to consider other options for his career finale. He used to play in the middle, but he’s been benched recently despite playing decent football.
The West Coast club is willing to let Darling leave, according to list manager Matt Clarke. However, the Eagles still have to approve the deal because Darling is under contract. Clarke confirmed to Gettable that the club is cognizant of Darling’s possible wish to seek a new residence during the trade season that begins next month.
“We had initial discussions with his management group about [a move],” said Clarke. Jack is under contract for the upcoming season. He’s been a rock for our football team, appearing in nearly 300 games. He may train and prepare just like everybody else.
“If he and his management group want to explore (the market), we’re open to talking about that, as we are with all our players.”
