Reports: It has been discussed that the Buffalo Sabres might make a trade with the New York Rangers in order to get a seasoned player like Trouba to coach….Read more
Among the most prominent figures now mentioned in rumors is Jacob Trouba, the captain of the New York Rangers. Despite multiple rumors, a trade involving Trouba did not materialize during the offseason despite discussions between the Rangers and the Red Wings. The Blueshirts’ desire to trade for Trouba is reasonable, given that he is the Rangers’ captain. Despite taking a $8 million cap hit until the end of 2025-26, his position on their depth chart has diminished, which does not sit well with him.
People are taking notice of Trouba because he is a tenacious defenseman, an effective leader, and a veteran with a wealth of experience. The Buffalo Sabres are among the teams said to be interested in Trouba, per the most recent Summer Trade Watch list from The Fourth Period. The Red Wings, Ducks of Anaheim, and Predators of Nashville are the other three clubs on the list. Rumor has it that Trouba has been visited by several clubs, including the Sabres, which is an intriguing development. While a top-six winger is their major priority at the moment, they seem willing to consider adding to their blueline as well.
The Sabres’ blueline is really young right now, so it could be beneficial to bring in a seasoned player like Trouba to coach the defensemen. They would have a new weapon on the right side and a better penalty killer with him in the lineup. On paper, though, the Sabres’ defensive unit appears solid. In order to make room for Trouba in the lineup, either Henri Jokiharju or Connor Clifton would have to be traded, unless the deal was reversed. Even though he would provide the Sabres’ blue line with a veteran who plays a heavy game, Trouba might not be the team’s first priority right now.
Because he has a no-trade list with fifteen teams, Trouba has considerable control over which teams get their hands on him. From here, we can observe whether the Sabres’ purported interest in Trouba results in their acquisition of him.
