Despite multiple rumors, a trade involving Trouba did not materialize during the offseason despite discussions between the Rangers and the Red Wings. The Blueshirts’ desire to trade for Trouba is reasonable, given that he is the Rangers’ captain. Despite taking a $8 million cap hit until the end of 2025-26, his position on their depth chart has diminished, which does not sit well with him.

People are taking notice of Trouba because he is a tenacious defenseman, an effective leader, and a veteran with a wealth of experience. The Buffalo Sabres are among the teams said to be interested in Trouba, per the most recent Summer Trade Watch list from The Fourth Period. The Red Wings, Ducks of Anaheim, and Predators of Nashville are the other three clubs on the list.
