Reports: Emi Martinez did not comply with Argentina’s request, and the decision of Aston Villa was confirmed.
Due to the fact that Aston Villa prevented Emi Martinez from participating in the Olympic football competition in Paris, he was not included in the men’s team that Argentina would send to the Games.
Martinez stated that he was willing to “fight” the club’s attitude in order to compete for a gold medal with his country since he wanted to do so. This statement was made one month ago. On the other hand, because FIFA has not certified or formally recognised the Olympic Football Tournament, clubs have the authority to block their players from being released for the competition.
Teams are only allowed to have players who are under the age of 23 (born on or after January 1, 2001), with a maximum of three players allowed to be older than that age. The manager of Argentina, Javier Mascherano, intended to nominate Martinez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Julian Alvarez to fill those spots.
In its place, he has chosen to include Geronimo Rulli, the custodian for Ajax, while Martinez has been excluded from the official squad of 18 players. As a result of the presence of the Olympic Football Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9, players who represent their nation will be absent from pre-season.
