He hasn’t played in a game since June 15 due to right triceps soreness. “Things are beginning to fall into place,” according to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

In order to prepare for a rehabilitation assignment and possible return in September, manager Dave Roberts said that the next stage is to throw three innings in the following five days.

“It’s one thing at a time,” Yamamoto announced. “I’m going to throw some games in September and then let’s see.” The Dodgers added Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani to their roster in the offseason.

With his 12-year, $325 million contract, he was supposed to be a lynchpin for the team’s starting lineup. That is precisely what he accomplished in fourteen starts before to his injury.

The right-hander didn’t spend any time adjusting to major league competition in his first season competing in the United States, posting a 2.92 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts in 74 innings.

As the Associated Press pointed out, the Dodgers’ pitching staff has had a number of setbacks this season.

River Ryan, Tony Gonsolin, Emmet Sheehan, and Kyle Hurt all had Tommy John surgeries, while Dustin May will miss the remainder of the season due to flexor tendon and esophageal surgeries.

Additionally, due to right elbow tendonitis, Tyler Glasnow is listed as injured for 15 days. Because of this, the Dodgers are placing a premium on Yamamoto’s possible return before the playoffs; he looked to be fine throughout Wednesday’s game.

“The ball was coming out of his hand with a lot of life,” remarked Roberts. It appears that he is in good health. We will begin to zero down on the command and all the other stuff after he recovers well.

With a 3.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles is atop the National League West.

The Dodgers may take advantage of their pitching rotation reinforcements as neither of their division rivals has weakened.

Plus, in game-changing playoff scenarios, they might rely on Yamamoto’s right arm.Even this year, Yoshinobu Yamamoto intends to lend a hand to the Los Angeles Dodgers as they try to win the World Series.
