                       Surprising Vikings position group maybe named in Super Bowl quest

In Sunday’s 23-13 road victory over the Tennessee Titans, Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings finally had the game they were hoping for.

For the third time this season, Darnold went the distance without allowing an interception, and the 8-2 Vikings took control of the game in the first half with three straight touchdowns. Will Levis, quarterback for the Titans, was sacked five times by Minnesota’s defense, while safety Harrison Smith, who leads the NFL in interceptions with 16, picked off a pass.V
The majority of NFL analysts think the Vikings’ swarming defense will limit their potential. Was Minnesota’s pursuit of a Super Bowl run jeopardized by one of the league’s most sluggish offenses in the past two months?

The Vikings’ secondary has been a major letdown this season, and their performance against the Tennessee Titans—a team that has been battling mightily—was no exception. Even though they managed just 261 passing yards, the Titans’ ground game was nonexistent. The pass defense that Will Levis faced often was ranked 21st in yards allowed and 21st in passing touchdowns allowed. Levis completed 17 of 31 passes for 295 yards and one score, while also committing one interception. Going into the last playoff game, Minnesota’s secondary is their greatest weakness, along with Darnold’s recent tendency for errors. The spring will see the free agency of four cornerbacks: Byron Murphy, Shaquill Griffin, Fabian Moreau, and Stephon Gilmore. With a projected cap space of $76.8 million for 2025, the Vikings need to make cornerbacks a priority this summer.

Is the Vikings’ cornerback corps going to be an issue for them in the postseason?

Not at all.

The New England Patriots’ defenses under Brian Flores’s leadership were notorious for allowing a ton of yards but very few points. Flores is a relative of Bill Belichick, the head coach of the Patriots. There is no difference between these Vikings.

In fact, its passing defense is seventh in the NFL in terms of yards per game allowed. On the other hand, their average points allowed ranks fourth in the league. Even if Levis throws for 295 yards, will it make a difference if the Titans only manage to score 13 points?

In January, the Vikings should be just as competitive as any team because to their veteran cornerback core.
