Reports: Craig Counsell highlights new tactical shift that would help to optimize the team’s performance…[Details in Post]

Over the last several years, the Chicago Cubs have kept a low profile during MLB free agency. They missed a golden opportunity to reclaim post-World Series contention by passing on high-priced players who could have helped them win it all.

The Cubs will have another opportunity to try to make a big play for a superstar in the next summer.
Juan Soto will soon be available for free agency. The New York Mets and the New York Yankees are the front-runners to re-sign him, but he will reportedly listen to offers from any team that can meet his demands.

Participating in large-dollar prizes is usually not something that Jed Hoyer is keen on. This offseason, though, a former Chicago great is pleading with the club to sign him.

Cubs great pitcher Ryan Dempster recently spoke out about Soto, suggesting the team should pursue a trade to get him.

Over the past few weeks, (the Cubs) have exercised relatively little free agency… Why wouldn’t they want Juan Soto to succeed? In that case, I’d pursue him. Sure, I could give it a go. He’s got youth working for him. His track record of consistent success speaks for itself. He has all the odds in his favor.

Fans have been expressing these exact feelings for the past several years. Chicago is the ideal place for Soto in particular. Even though he’s only 25 years old, he already has the potential to transform a team’s fortunes.

Soto has appeared in 138 games for the Yankees this 2024 season. His hitting statistics include 38 home runs and 98 RBI.294 over 422 over 587. Based on his statistics, the Cubs should make an effort to sign Soto during free agency.

Not having a key player has been a major problem for Chicago in previous years. They are currently without a starting pitcher. Right from the start, that person would be Soto. The general management and ownership of the Cubs are not going to change their strategy, regardless of what the fans think.

Team owner Tom Ricketts isn’t one to shell out a ton of cash for a player. He may switch things up, but it’s looking unlikely. Chicago is more inclined to try to bolster the team marginally through off-the-radar trades. The Cubs’ chances of returning to postseason contention in 2025 would hinge on the development and improvement of its younger players.
