In what has already been an outstanding season for him, this standout player for the New York Mets made himself a part of the franchise’s history on Friday.

Stop the play During the Mets’ series-opening victory over the Cincinnati Reds, Francisco Lindor extended his run of consecutive games with at least one on-base to 34. With this, he tied the record for the longest on-base streak in a single season by a Met in the history of the team. First baseman Pete Alonso, who also established the record in 2019 during his rookie season, is now joined by Lindor, who is also a member of the same squad.

Lindor also extended his hitting streak to a career-best 16 games when he hit a single in the first inning off of Reds pitcher Fernando Cruz. After that, he came around to score on the first of two home runs hit by third baseman Mark Vientos. This brought Lindor’s hitting streak to a new high for his career.

While he is at the plate, Lindor is continuing to make his case for the Most Valuable Player award in the National League.He had a batting average of 273 for the year, an on-base percentage of.840, 30 home runs, 84 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases.

The 30 home runs that Lindor has hit have tied him for sixth place in the National League, and he has played shortstop defense that is worthy of a Gold Glove. Also, he has not missed a single game for the Mets so far in 2024, as he has participated in all 141 of the team’s games.

Throughout New York’s season-high eight-game winning streak, Lindor has been an essential component of the team’s success. Over the course of this span, the 30-year-old has a record of 11-for-33 (.333), plus two home runs and six runs batted in.

As they resume their series against Cincinnati on Saturday, Lindor and the Mets, who are still tied with the Atlanta Braves for the final Wild Card slot in the National League, will attempt to win nine consecutive games for the first time since 2018. This would be the first time they have accomplished this feat since 2018.
