Reports: Caitlin Clarke talks about her long-term health condition and how it has become a threat to her career
Fans and media alike are enthralled by rookie point guard Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, making her an enormous draw for the WNBA. The 22-year-old may seem unfazed by the scrutiny and expectations placed on her as a player, but Clark does, in fact, have to fight through some things on occasion. From an early age on, Clark has been plagued by migraines. But practicing basketball has taught her to control them.
During Indiana’s victory over the Phoenix Mercury, the matter was raised. With a total of 88 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds, Clark nearly had the first triple-double for the Fever in their 88-82 win. Clark discussed her migraines and strategies for coping with them during games after the match.
“Adrenaline is a lot of it for me, once the game stops, that’s when I really feel it,” he added. “It’s hard, but honestly, I’ve suffered from them since I was a very young kid, so I found a way to manage it and still go about my business.”
Clark acknowledges that adrenaline aids her performance on the court, but that things alter after the game. “Everybody around me knows that’s what I deal with, and there’s a lot bigger problems in the world, I’m lucky mine is just migraines, so I could have a lot worse things to deal with,” said Clark.
Phoenix was a fantastic venue with an amazing audience. It didn’t help that the music and lights were really insane. In all candor, I attribute my success in the majority of games to the rush of excitement.
