Forward Juraj Slafkovský and the Montreal Canadiens have reached an eight-year, $60.8 million contract, as revealed on Monday by general manager Kent Hughes. The contract runs from 2025-26 to 2032-33. As part of the agreement, he will receive $7.6 million each year on average.
season 82 games played with the Canadiens season 2023-24, Slafkovský, who is 20 years old, scored 50 points (20 goals, 30 assists). As a second-year NHL skater, he led the team in goals and hits (152), was fourth in assists and points, and had 71 blocked shots, the most of any forward.
By recording 40 points in a season before turning 20 years old, Slafkovský became the first player in the team’s history. His assist in Colorado on March 26th marked the occasion. The forward made his 100th appearance in the National Hockey League on March 2 in Tampa Bay. On March 28, against the Flyers, Slafkovský also earned his inaugural hat trick in the NHL.
From March 9th to the 28th, the native of Košice, SK scored two goals and assisted on eight more, setting a new record for his career. Slafkovský played Slovakia at the 2024 IIHF World Championship after the NHL regular season concluded, and he scored eight goals in eight games while playing there. The 6-3, 230-pound winger, who was chosen first overall by the Canadiens in 2022, is currently the best in his draft class with 121 games played, 24 goals, 36 assists, and 60 points, just two seasons after being drafted.
