The Los Angeles Dodgers Will Pay Tribute to a Late Greatness in the 2025 World Series
Starting on Friday night, the Dodgers will pay tribute to Fernando Valenzuela.
Starting with Friday night’s Game 1 of the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers will pay tribute to the late Fernando Valenzuela.
The squad took to social media to reveal that starting in the 2025 season, they will be donning a Valenzuela uniform patch during the whole World Series.
During the 2025 season and the World Series, the Dodgers will wear this jersey patch in tribute of our hero Fernando Valenzuela.
After suffering from cancer-related problems, Valenzuela passed away earlier this week at the age of 63.
Throughout his eleven years with the Dodgers, he was an integral part of the franchise’s history. Towards the end of his career, he played with the Padres for three seasons.
Also, he played with the Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and California Angels for brief periods of time.
Valenzuela debuted in 1980 at the tender age of 19, and in 1981 he dominated the league. Before social media got viral, “Fernandomania” was a must-watch TV show and a genuine sensation.
In 1981, Valenzuela had a great season as well, winning the National League Cy Young Award and Rookie of the Year. In the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees; in the Fall Classic this year, the two teams will face again.
Valenzuela finished four times in the top five of the Cy Young vote and was a six-time All-Star. He was also a Gold Glover. He won at least ten games in a season on multiple occasions, with his 1986 campaign featuring a league-best 21 victories.
