Joe Schoen, the general manager, had a firm valuation in mind for each and would not budge from it. The 2024 NFL trade deadline has officially passed, and with it, all the anticipation and mystery surrounding that era.

Ojulari, a 24-year-old who is two sacks short of his career high of 8.0, is thought to have been valued by third-year general manager Schoen at a low fourth-round selection. In place of Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is out with a wrist injury and recovering from surgery, Ojualri has accumulated five sacks in his past four games.

The team’s 2021 second-round draft choice, Ojulari, has missed significant time due to injuries over the past two seasons. Ojulari was relegated to the position of spot pass rusher after the team traded for Brian Burns from the Panthers, but he has performed admirably in that capacity this season.

Meanwhile, with 469 receiving yards, Slayton is second on the squad, trailing only rookie Malik Nabers. He lost out to second-year receiver Jalin Hyatt in training camp when the two were vying for a starting position in the offense.

Despite asking for a contract extension last spring, deep threat and four-time Giants receiving yardage leader Chris Slayton instead agreed to a modified deal based on incentives.

Assuming Ojulari and Slayton depart via free agency after this year, the Giants’ best shot, given their inability to secure additional draft capital for next year, is to acquire compensatory picks for 2026.

The Giants wouldn’t benefit from that for 2025, and compensatory picks aren’t guaranteed because they depend on multiple factors. However, if they plan to move up in the draft next year, they would have a good idea of what they stand to gain in terms of compensatory picks for 2026, which could help them package trade picks.
