LOCKED IN: The Cleveland Browns have just finally accepted a Jameis Winston four years contract Resignation, keeping him with the team until the end of 2028….See more
Not just Kevin Stefanski’s employment must be in jeopardy during a losing season.
The Cleveland Browns are once again in the middle of an uncompetitive season, sitting in the usual cellar of the AFC North with a 3-8 record. It would be one thing if this were a new government that was attempting to escape its obscurity, but since the Kevin Stefanski, Andrew Berry, and Paul DePodesta “brain trust” has been in power for five years, there must be repercussions for their combined incompetence.
With the most costly offence in football, many predicted that this squad would be a Super Bowl candidate. There was a certain understanding that if they couldn’t right the ship, their jobs were at stake, and failure was not an option. Regretfully, despite this season being a complete trainwreck, it appears like the Browns will maintain their jobs.
It must be admitted that this would not have occurred unless their hands were forced in one way or another, even though many will highlight the offensive turnaround and two victories with Jameis Winston replacing an injured Deshaun Watson at quarterback. That force was Watson suffering a season-ending injury for the second consecutive year.
Even though Watson has been the league’s worst quarterback, the team has repeatedly stated that they think he provided them the best chance to beat the opposition. Despite Watson’s ineffectiveness, this conclusion is a glaring miscalculation of talent that ought to lead to their termination, yet for some reason it won’t.
More Browns news: After deciding to pursue and eventually get Watson, the Browns have not been able to reach the next level they had hoped for. This is the fifth year that this regime has been in charge, and they have had some success.
The Browns are far worse when he plays, despite the fact that this signing was supposed to make them serious Super Bowl contenders. When assessing how the organisation will proceed, this is the typical pattern of a transaction that has not gone well for anyone and should be taken into account.
With just a few games left in the season, Jimmy Haslam needs to make a decision.
Although Jimmy Haslam deserves some credit for his ability to refrain from interfering with Cleveland’s football operations, the Browns urgently need him to embrace his inner Jerry Jones and take on the role of the football-savvy tycoon they so desperately need.
Instead of letting the present group continue to produce undesirable results, he must firmly assert his authority and hold people accountable for what has happened.
This team will have a difficult time recovering from this blunder if no adjustments are made following this poor campaign. The foundation is still strong enough that a comeback might occur as early as the following season if the proper decisions are made by the right people.
However, Stefanski, Berry, and DePodesta have now demonstrated that they are not the appropriate people, and it appears like a completely new group will be necessary for this club to genuinely become competitive once more. It would be a huge injustice to both players and spectators to let this group go unhurt from a terrible season that they created.
Given the events of this season, they must understand that their jobs are at stake as a result of their collective failure and should not in any way anticipate returning.
