A Cy Young Award winner, a powerful designated hitter, and an All-Star third baseman were among the many offseason additions made by the San Francisco Giants in an effort to strengthen the team overall.

The Giants appeared determined to shift their focus from their veterans to the minor league prospects even as they inked a long-term contract with overseas sensation Jung Hoo Lee. Heliot Ramos, a promising young player, is now one of their top hitters.

In his first complete season, the 24-year-old was named to the All-Star squad and has the team’s best OPS+ at 129. No other San Francisco outfielder has been able to break through to the third spot like he has. Whether they come from inside the company or not, it is critical to identify the individual who can fill that position in 2025.

Michael Conforto, who joined the club via free agency prior to the 2023 season, will once again have the option to leave. Despite entering his final year of arbitration, 33-year-old Mike Yastrzemski began to exhibit symptoms of deterioration this season.

What September has been all about, though, are the young actors who were given opportunities to shine. Luis Matos has been bouncing around Triple-A and the Majors since being up early in the year and won the National League Player of the Week award in May. He has five home runs and twenty-five RBI on the season, but his slash line is just.211/.235/.340.

Only three games have he appeared in so far this month, despite being summoned back up in September for a showcase at the end of the season. It seems like the Giants have pretty much given up on Matos as a starting quarterback candidate. But another top prospect, Grant McCray, has also made a late run and into the debate.

He made his rookie season debut in the midst of August and has since participated in 21 games. The team is in awe of his power explosion; he’s hitting.507 with five home runs, three doubles, and a triple. Both his low walk total of three and his Major League strikeout rate of 42.1% are causes for concern.

The 23-year-old has excellent defensive skills in center field, giving them a choice if they wish to trade Lee for another player. Although other prospects like as Wade Meckler and James Tibbs will have an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities throughout Spring Training, McCray has an advantage when it comes to the third outfield place within the club.

Free agency is, of course, the biggest problem.
A lot of speculation will surround the potential opt-outs of Juan Soto, Teoscar Hernandez, Lourides Gurriel Jr., and Cody Bellinger. Many expect San Francisco to be a major offseason spender, and the city has been actively seeking out A-listers for some time.

You can get two things done at once by signing one of these outfielders. After a poor season, the Giants are anticipated to make a huge splash. The team’s largest need, apart from potential additions to the middle infield, is the outfield.
