Just In: NFL hand a 3-game suspension to New York Jet’s WR Davante Adams for alleged use of…..
Leading the host New York Jets to a 32-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., Aaron Rodgers tossed a season-high four touchdown passes and reached a career mark. This might have been his Hall of Fame game.
As the Jets (5-12) played spoiler against their long-standing AFC East rivals, Rodgers completed 23 of 36 passes for 274 yards, threw an interceptions and finished with a 112.5 passer rating. Once the Denver Broncos defeated the Kansas Chiefs to secure the AFC’s last wild-card berth, Miami (8-9) was kicked from playoff contention even before the time ran out.
Making it both of the past two seasons, the Dolphins missed the postseason.
The 500th of Rodgers’ career was his first touchdown pass on Sunday. With 7:57 left in the second quarter, he fired a 5-yarder to Tyler Conklin to give the Jets a 7-6 lead.
Joining Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539), and Brett Favre (508 Rodgers became the sixth quarterback in NFL history to achieve the 500 touchdown mark.
Rodgers would follow that with touchdown throws to two former Green Bay colleagues, Allen Lazard and Davante Adams. With 10:24 left in the fourth quarter, the latter was a 4-yard connection to Adams in the rear of the end zone, putting the Jets ahead 23-15.
Tyler Huntley began for the Dolphins as quarterback for the second straight week while Tua Tagovailoa sat out once more with a hip ailment. Huntley threw a couple of costly interceptions and lost a fumble, so his sixth start in relief of Tagovailoa didn’t go quite as well as last week’s victory at Cleveland. Four turnovers were forced total by the Jets’ defense.
With 5:21 to go, Huntley completed 25 of 41 passes for 227 yards and located Jonnu Smith for a 4-yard touchdown pass to narrow New York’s advantage to 25-20. Smith’s eighth touchdown catch of the season established a new franchise record for a tight end. De’Von Achane ran 11 times for 121 yards and a touchdown.
With 2:30 left, the Jets secured the result on Rodgers’ last touchdown toss, a 6-yarder to Breece Hall.
