Acaden Lewis, a point guard from the Washington, D.C. area and a 4-star recruit, was almost taken by the Kentucky Wildcats.

A large number of big universities extended offers to Lewis, who 247 Sports Composite ranked as the 30th best talent in the nation. He ranked Kentucky, Duke, and UConn in that order. Other programs, such as those in North Carolina and Michigan, extended invitations for him to visit their campuses.

The Cats came out on top in the end, but according to his dad, things may have turned out differently.

The 11th of October was Lewis’s visit to Kentucky. Unfortunately, his trip was delayed, thus he missed Kentucky’s practice, which put the Cats in a disadvantage. It was almost cut, and if it had been, Lewis probably would have gone to UConn.

“He was about to cut Kentucky,” his father Jarrett Lewis told the Marshall County Daily. The level of noise in Kentucky was really high. Early on, there were crystal ball choices that said he should go to Kentucky. However, Kentucky was completely outmatched as Big Blue Nation went ballistic. Even though we hadn’t seen them practice, everyone assumed it was Kentucky.

It was fortunate that Hart and Pope would not allow him to escape. What happened next is history as they persisted in pursuing Lewis with all their resources.

Mark and Jason had recruited him more than any other blue blood, therefore I am shocked. Pope scouted him like he was a young Allen Iverson, regardless of his position. It was either Mark Pope or Jason Hart who showed up each week. After spending four weeks at Acaden’s gym, Mark Pope returned home. “We kept that under wraps,” Lewis stated.

After much effort, Pope and Hart were able to transfer Lewis to Lexington, where he is expected to have a fruitful career for many years to come. Here we go again with more proof that the BBN is missing out on some serious action with Pope at the helm of the Cats’ offense.
