As a result of their victory over the Washington Nationals by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday night in Washington, the Kansas City Royals have moved closer to securing their first postseason berth since 2015.

In the current season, Kansas City has a record of 84-74 after the victory. Together with the Detroit Tigers, they are currently tied for the second and third wild card spots in the American League Division. Compared to the Minnesota Twins, both teams are now two games ahead, while the Seattle Mariners are two and a half games behind.

For the Royals, who have had significant lulls throughout the final month of the season, the journey that has brought them to this place has been a fascinating one. In spite of the fact that they have had two separate losing streaks of seven games over the course of the past month, they have still managed to maintain their position in the playoffs.

According to the social media account @OptaSTATS, they have already established some incredible baseball history in only the past week with the following:

A scoreless stretch of 27 innings at the plate has been experienced by the Royals over the course of the last four games.
on the mound, a scoreless streak that lasted for 26 innings

During a stretch of four games, no other Major League Baseball club has ever had a drought of 25 innings or more without scoring a single run, both in terms of hitting and pitching.

On Wednesday, the Royals were able to achieve a shutout by combining the efforts of six different pitchers. This came after the Royals had previously held the Nationals scoreless for ten innings on Tuesday night.

If the Royals are able to defeat the Nationals once again on Thursday afternoon, they will be able to move closer to securing a spot in the postseason.

At one minute and five seconds after the hour, Eastern Time, Michael Wacha will take the mound at Nationals Park to face off against Patrick Corbin.

Corbin has a record of 6-13, while Wacha has a record of 13-8 with a 3.28 earned run average.
