Just In: Florida State Seminoles have just confirmed the……Read more
As the Seminoles get ready to head to SMU for their first genuine road game, they have a win under their belt and maybe some momentum. Following the Mustangs’ summer admission to the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Seminoles will face an opponent from a different conference for the second week in a row. With this game, SMU will make its ACC debut.
After defeating Nevada, HCU (FCS), and TCU, the Mustangs are now 3-1 with a loss to BYU. SMU’s 66-point win over the Horned Frogs was the first game in which redshirt sophomore quarterback Kevin Jennings started.
On Saturday night, after defeating Cal in Tallahassee, the Seminoles finally covered the spread. After suffering three consecutive losses, the result came as a welcome relief for Florida State, who had been picked to win. As the season begins, FSU takes on an explosive offense on the road and is positioned as the underdog in the opening betting odds.
Early lines on DraftKings have the Mustangs as 4.5-point underdogs versus Florida State. The Money Line and over/under odds are not yet available at the book.
If Seminole offense can’t get going, it’s hard to see them winning. When it comes to four games played this season, SMU has scored more than 20 points just once, whilst FSU hasn’t done it since losing to Georgia Tech in the season opener. The other team can only manage 39 points in three games, which puts a strain on the defense.
Ground defense for Florida State is going to be crucial in stopping the Mustangs. Last week, SMU’s offense rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns on an average of 5.7 yards per run, despite only completing 19 passes. Following devastating losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College, the Seminoles have rebounded to allow just 86 rushing yards per game in their next two games.
On Saturday, September 28, at 8:00 p.m., the game between SMU and Florida State will begin. Fans can tune in to watch the game on the ACC Network.
