Just In: Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes has heated conversation with Coach Andy Reid as he’s removed from…….Read more
In Week 3 of the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football. However, who will start at left tackle for the Chiefs? Head coach Andy Reid provided an update on the position’s status on Friday without designating a starter.
The unpredictability at left tackle comes after rookie Kingsley Suamataia had a difficult game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2, and he was replaced late in the fourth quarter by second-year lineman Wanya Morris.
“The two tackles will both have an opportunity to get in there this game, the left tackles,” stated Reid.
When questioned on Sunday night about the potential implications of the left tackle conundrum, Reid didn’t provide much information to the media
“We’ll see,” Reid remarked. “We’ll see how it goes just as we roll.”
Reid was questioned later about whether he was suggesting that Suamataia and Morris are “both ready to go,” which would be an unusual tactic for Reid’s teams. Reid first reiterated that Suamataia and Morris are “both ready to go.”
Reid grinned and added, “That was good, just like a lawyer.” “It was a decent attempt. You’re always learning something new, so pay attention.”
Even after hearing Reid’s remarks again, it’s unclear enough to say with certainty whether the Chiefs will rotate both players on Sunday night. At this point, it appears more likely that Reid was just being evasive about the specifics of Kansas City’s starting lineup.
It’s hardly shocking that Reid chose to keep Atlanta wondering rather than name a player outright when he could, for the most part, keep them guessing after going all the way to Friday without disclosing the starter. The other young tackle may be used again in the game if the starter struggles, regardless of who gets the start.
In order to handle a heavier workload in Atlanta, Reid also cut down on Kansas City’s pool of prospective running backs and said that recently re-signed back Kareem Hunt would not be playing.
Reid declared, “We’ll keep Kareem down this game.”
When asked how Hunt seemed after his first few practices back in Kansas City, Reid responded that while he still has some work to do to get back into football form, Hunt showed encouraging indications.
Reid stated, “He did good.” “He’s in decent shape, now, listen, he’s got to have an opportunity to play, to play a football game somewhere to tell you the rest, but he came in in good shape, so that’s a plus there.”
Reid mentioned that while KC geared ready for Atlanta, Hunt received good reps while running with the scout team. “We’ll see how it goes next week and see where he’s at,” said Reid. “He got a lot of reps this week with the scout team, so that was good for him to get in there and run around and kind of get back into the football part of it.”
