With four games remaining in the 2024 season, Florida State’s injury list is already considerable, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Last week, the Seminoles were missing offensive tackles Robert Scott and Jeremiah Byers as well as running back Roydell Williams, who is expected to be sidelined for some time.
As FSU prepares for its first real road game in Dallas on Saturday night, the squad is once again shorthanded. Senior offensive guard Richie Leonard IV has been ruled out of the game against SMU, according to a program representative.
SMU Mustangs vs. Florida State Seminoles: A preview of the game
Leonard IV came off the bench in Florida State’s victory over Cal last weekend after starting the previous three games. When compared to TJ Ferguson and Keiondre Jones, he has proven to be the most productive interior option. Leonard IV is the Seminole with the third-most offensive snap total (230) among all players.
Ferguson and Jones will probably start at the two guard spots for Florida State in the absence of Leonard IV. Byers and Scott’s availability is still unknown, but the fact that they haven’t been ruled out yet is undoubtedly encouraging. Due to a lower-body injury, Byers has missed three straight games; last week, Scott was sidelined despite participating in the whole game.
In any case, the Seminoles won’t have a completely healthy front line again as a result of the loss. This season, Florida State’s offense has had difficulty getting out to a start.
In terms of overall offense, the team is ranked seventh in the FBS, fourth in terms of rushing offense, and ninth in terms of scoring offense. With only 11 sacks permitted, the ‘Noles are likewise among the lowest in the nation.
Pregame, NoleGameday will be keeping an eye out for Scott and Byers.
