Good News: Texas Longhorns’ Head Coach Have Just Announced The…..Read more
With a reasonably easy schedule ahead of them and the Texas Longhorns still on a high from their statement victory against top-ranked Michigan, the attention is beginning to turn to Arch Manning, the backup quarterback. Some supporters are wondering if Manning is getting the chance to show his worth in the next games against Louisiana-Monroe and UTSA, even though those games are likely to be blowouts.
Manning has been demoted to the position of backup quarterback, patiently waiting for his chance to take over, as Quinn Ewers has established himself as the starting quarterback.
Since Texas is expected to score early in both of their upcoming games, many believe that Manning will play more minutes in what can only be characterized as “garbage time” – a complete contrast to the high-pressure situations in which fans had thought he would excel.
During the Texas game, Matthew McConaughey handled Arch Manning in a very different way than Quinn Ewers.
The Longhorns don’t have much of a challenge on their schedule, as they face two weak opponents that shouldn’t pose much of a challenge. Fans are hoping for more from Manning in these games, even though he will get some passing opportunities and stat accumulation.
These matchups are too easy for the young quarterback, who was a highly touted recruit nationally. When backup quarterbacks like Manning enter the game, the defense is usually checked out, and errors are generally overlooked.
We need a real test of Manning’s abilities soon, because his few snaps thus far—including a modest 95-yard performance against Colorado State—have failed to deliver. Many Texans would love to see him perform under pressure, not only in blowouts when the game is already won. As long as Ewers is on the team, fans will continue to be disappointed because they want to see Manning take charge in a high-stakes game.
