Good News: Los Angeles Dodgers Leading Orioles, Red Sox And Yankees In The Race To Sign Top Experienced Pitcher From….See details
The Miami Marlins have appointed Clayton McCullough, a former first base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as their next manager. Previous manager Skip Schumaker was replaced by McCullough.
Furthermore, McCullough will be the third manager of the team since the beginning of the 2022 season, following Schumaker and Don Mattingly. This will be McCullough’s first job managing at the Major League level, and he will also be the third manager of the organization overall.
Simply because of his relationship to the Dodgers organization, McCullough provides a great deal of credibility to an organization that is in desperate need of it. Beginning with the 2015 season, McCullough has had a variety of positions within the Dodgers organization. Among these positions is that of minor league field coordinator. Additionally, McCullough served as an assistant to Gabe Kapler, who is now the assistant general manager of the Marlins, while he was employed in the front office of the Dodgers.
In 2021, he was elevated to the position of first base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, which he has held ever since he was appointed to the major league coaching staff.
In addition to providing the Marlins with some legitimacy, it is also a significant opportunity for McCullough to obtain his first managing job at the highest level within the organization.
The piece of good news is that.
McCullough is about to quickly learn that the environment is very different from that of a big-market powerhouse that has an unlimited budget in building a team to that of a small-market team that is one of the most frugal and cheapest teams in the league. The bad news is that McCullough may simply be set up to fail because he is about to learn this.
Just one year after becoming eligible for a wild-card place in 2023 with 84 wins, the Marlins finished this season with a record of 62-100.
The Marlins’ pitching staff has been destroyed by injuries throughout the course of this season; yet, there is a possibility that bringing back some of them will be beneficial. There are three powerhouse clubs in this division: the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Atlanta Braves.
Despite this, this organization is lacking in quality, money, and spending, and it is competing in a division with three of the best teams in the league. Should McCullough be successful in making this club even marginally competitive, he will have his work cut out for him.
