Good News: Los Angeles Clippers signs another top experienced star
The announcement that the Los Angeles Clippers had signed forward Derrick Jones Jr. was made by Lawrence Frank, who is the President of Basketball Operations for the Clippers.
According to Frank, “Derrick is an incredible athlete and a versatile defender who excels in transition and attacks the rim.” Derrick is also an excellent player. Through his length and activity, he has the ability to completely alter the course of a game, as we witnessed personally during the playoffs versus Dallas. This season, we are going to have a defence that is tough, and DJJ is going to be a significant part of that defence.
Over the course of the previous season, Jones Jr., who is 27 years old, played 76 games for the Dallas Mavericks and averaged a career-high 8.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. In addition, the 6-foot-6 forward started in 22 postseason games on his way to an appearance in the NBA Finals. He went on to average 9.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 blocked shots during his time in the playoffs. Jones Jr., who was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, has played in 420 games during the course of his career with the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls, and Dallas Mavericks. He has averaged 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 50.2% from the field. Jones Jr. was awarded the title of Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball in 2015 and became the winner of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2020.
