ESPN Reports: Mets Re-Sign Pete Alonso Following Juan Soto Deal.

Once again, the New York Yankees and the New York Mets are competing with one another to acquire the same All-Star player or player.

There has been very little time for the dust to settle since the Mets defeated the Yankees in the bidding war for Juan Soto on Sunday. Following a story that was published on Monday by Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, it was revealed that the two New York teams are currently engaged in negotiations to acquire Garrett Crochet, a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox.

Additionally, it has been reported that the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox are interested in Crochet. However, as of Monday, it has been claimed that the Yankees and the Mets are thought to be Crochet’s “most aggressive suitors.”

During what was a very poor season for the White Sox in 2024, crochet was the only thing that stood out as a positive. Because of his 3.58 earned run average, 209 strikeouts, and 1.07 earned run average per innings, he was selected as the only All-Star for the squad.

The Mets would be able to fix a starting rotation that has a lot of question marks if they added Crochet to their roster. The Mets have already lost Luis Severino to the Oakland Athletics in a move that was quite shocking. Sean Manaea, a top starter, is still a free agent at this time.

Presumed to be an elite player, Kodai Senga is coming off of a season that was plagued by injuries and in which he made only one start. Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon, two of the Mets’ most dependable pitchers, are at the top of the Yankees’ pitching staff, which is significantly more robust than the Mets’.

On the other hand, in order to replace Soto’s production, the Bronx Bombers will need to make adjustments elsewhere. Additionally, in addition to Crochet, the Yankees are contemplating making yet another splashy move in order to fill the gap that Soto has left behind.
