Center fielder Mike Trout is “gearing toward being ready for spring training,” according to Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian, as reported by Robert Murray of Fansided. February marks the start of spring training.
After tearing his meniscus in 2024, Trout was out for the bulk of that year’s campaign. Trout had surgery to repair a torn meniscus that he sustained at the tail end of April. After starting a rehabilitation assignment, Trout was expected to return throughout the summer. However, his return was abruptly ended when he tore his meniscus again. At the conclusion of the season, Trout suffered a second meniscus tear.
Trout made 29 appearances with the Angels before to the injury. He hit.220,.325 and.541, and he had 14 RBIs and 10 home runs. Trout was the MLB leader in home runs for a while before he tore his meniscus.
Trout has been sidelined by injuries for four consecutive seasons prior to this injury. Only once since 2019 has he played in over 100 games in a season, and that was after dealing with calf, back, and hand problems. For the first time since 2011, he did not participate in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in 2024 since he played in the fewest games in a season since he entered the league.
The Angels are considering ways to make Trout less susceptible to injuries in the future in the hopes that he can return to a full season of play. Some have suggested shifting Trout to the designated hitter position or the corner outfield post in order to reduce his future injury risk. Trout preferred to keep playing center field, but the Angels scrapped the idea in 2022, when manager Joe Maddon was in charge.
This time, Trout seems more receptive to the idea of switching spots.
According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, Trout stated in September, “I think everything’s on the table.” I aspire to be in the batter’s box and on the field daily in the end. I will let the front desk decide whether that means DHing more or relocating to a corner. I intend to investigate all possibilities that will keep me active in light of my current situation and the events of the past few years.
Trout, who plans to make a full recovery for the 2025 season, also started swinging in September.
