The Atlanta Falcons have a perfect record (4-0) while playing teams from the NFC South. On Sunday, they’ll hit the road to take on the slumping New Orleans Saints, who have lost seven games in a row. On the other hand, the Saints are the division rival that may lay claim to the division’s most remarkable regular season record.

The 2020 season was historic for New Orleans as they became the first South team to sweep all three of their regular season opponents. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ eventual playoff victory and Super Bowl triumph under Tom Brady’s leadership ultimately undermined that.

In Sunday’s game against the Saints, the Falcons have a chance to go 5-0 in the NFC South and solidify their division claim. “Outrun the South” has been head coach Raheem Morris’s motto since day one with the club.

Morris stated this week, “I didn’t mean to coin it.”But you know what? I was simply being completely honest with those men and speaking straight from the heart.

“Somehow, I let these guys talk me into doing a team meeting live, and that came out and people are just taking it on their own.”

All-Pro guard Chris Lindstrom knows this squad is unique because its members trust in each other, and it doesn’t matter if he intended to create the term or not; the players have bought into it across the board.

It seems like everyone is on board and believes everything. We believed in each other and took advantage of opportunities to win games when it seemed like we shouldn’t have or when nobody else did. The words came from Lindstrom.

The Falcons need to take care of business in New Orleans against a Saints squad that is now playing under an interim head coach and has only two wins this season.

Doing so would put them in a strong position to surpass their rival’s ambitious 2020 performance. In the last week of the regular season, following Sunday’s game, Atlanta will face the Carolina Panthers.
