ESPN Reports: Arizona Cardinals have just secured a $176.2million experienced star QB from rivals in a blockbuster deal……Read more
The Arizona Cardinals’ intentions for the upcoming NFL trade deadline in two weeks will determine whether they are active participants in the trade market.
The Cardinals could convince themselves that the season is still within their reach with a 3-4 record, even though they realize that making it to the playoffs is a long shot.
But if the Cardinals want to acquire a cornerback, ESPN sees Cleveland Browns CB Greg Newsome II as a prime trade candidate. GM Monti Ossenfort has to make that call. Although Arizona should be the first to know if Ben Solak’s talents are available, he admits that it’s a tough sell.
Although I doubt the Browns would part with, the Cardinals would be the first to call in the event that they did. Newsome is strong in man and zone coverage and possesses inside-outside versatility. While the other young players on the depth chart battle for the remaining positions, he would slot in as the much needed CB1 in Arizona,” he said.
When paired alongside Arizona’s current slot corner, Garrett Williams, Newsome would be a huge improvement over the team’s current cornerback corps.
A previous first-round pick, Newsome has made an impression in his brief time with the Cavaliers despite being only 24 years old. He’s a towering, athletic cornerback who would start every game in the desert.
We don’t yet know the specifics of any possible trade package. Jeremy Fowler, an NFL analyst for ESPN, stated that he did not anticipate the organization being purchasers by the deadline:
In 2024, the Cardinals are focusing on winning and future planning. I anticipate that General Manager Monti Ossenfort will remain committed to his selections since that equilibrium fosters patience. According to Fowler, “if Ossenfort wants to give the free-agent-to-be a chance to earn a new contract elsewhere,” they should trade for Safety Budda Baker.
In the near future, we will observe Arizona’s final decision.
