ESPN: Los Angeles Chargers meet with $600m star making blockbuster deal possible…
It is widely known that the Los Angeles Chargers must acquire assistance for the wide receiver spot during this offseason. One of the best free-agent wide receivers this offseason will be Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins, who Chargers fans think Derwin James might be doing his best to recruit to Los Angeles.
After the Chargers defeated the Bengals by seven points, James and Higgins exchanged jerseys, causing a stir among the Bolt supporters. A user on X platform even went as far as to publicly acknowledge the Chargers safety, commenting “I understand your strategy, Derwin” while sharing an image of James and Higgins posing together in their recently autographed jerseys.
The Bengals have not done a great job of keeping it under wraps that they will probably allow Higgins to leave in free agency this year, but it’s not because he lacks talent. Higgins has been part of the league since 2020, showcasing his skills with the Bengals by achieving two seasons with over 1,000 yards. Even as a rookie, he almost reached this milestone with 908 yards, despite not having Joe Burrow for the final six games of that season.
The Bengals are probably moving on from Higgins because they have already invested heavily in Burrow and still have to allocate funds for Ja’Marr Chase. Higgins stands alone as the odd one out, as investing in a quarterback and two receivers is not a wise financial choice. Higgins’ situation hasn’t been favorable due to his frequent injuries in recent seasons, causing him to sit out five games this year and another five in 2023.
With that said, should James decide to bring Higgins to LA, fans will not voice any objections. As previously mentioned, he has been a standout player for the Bengals when in good condition, and the Chargers could benefit from having a receiver of his caliber in their lineup. Imagine Higgins, Ladd McConkey, and a newly-energized Quentin Johnston as Justin Herbert’s main weapons. That is quite a frightening bunch over there.
Chargers fans should have no problem with Derwin James potentially recruiting Tee Higgins
Convincing Higgins to come to LA would have been more challenging if the Chargers had faced difficulties this year, but that has not been the situation. The Bolts have emerged as a delightful surprise in 2024, securing the fifth spot in the playoff standings with a 90% likelihood of reaching the postseason following their victory against the Bengals led by Higgins.
Thanks to Jim Harbaugh’s swift team transformation, Herbert’s role as the cornerstone quarterback, and a defense that seems poised to maintain its dominance in 2025 and beyond, Higgins has plenty of better options to ponder when choosing his next team. Hopefully, James advocated effectively for Los Angeles, increasing the Chargers’ likelihood of acquiring Tee Higgins during the upcoming offseason.
