ESPN: Detroit Lions wins bidding war against rivals to sign EX-Giants’ QB Daniel Jones to their starting lineup following his release in a blockbuster transaction worth…..see details

The New York Giants released former first-round pick Daniel Jones last week. This week he formally cleared waivers, therefore rendering him an unrestricted free agent.

Report: 'Leading Candidate' Has Emerged For Ex-Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones

Adam Schefter of ESPN said Jones wants to sign with a competitor. Linked to the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings, the former No. 6 choice Heck, the Detroit Lions were even under discussion as a possible landing site for him. Though a decision hasn’t yet been decided, it looks like the Duke product is nearing his choice of next residence.

NFL expert Josina Anderson says Jones has a “leading choice”.

Though she suggested the Las Vegas Raiders as a possible sweepstakes player, Anderson withheld disclosing which team Jones is in the lead for.

“A senior league official told me they have the impression QB Daniel Jones has zeroed on a ‘leading’ choice,” Anderson added. “Another senior league source told me their perspective is Jones ‘is telling teams tomorrow.'” Separately, I have heard the Raiders also show interest following Gardner Minshew’s injury.”

Kevin O’Connell, the Viking coach, was asked about maybe signing Jones. Though he tried not to say anything provocative, he did highly praise the seasoned quarterback.

“I’m not going to really get into that today, but I will say tons of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person,” O’Connell said. “Had first known him years ago during the drafting process. Daniel is going to make the decision that is best for him and his career moving forward, and I’m sure he is working through that process now that he is a free agent and there is most likely a ton of league-wide interest in him.

With 14,502 career throwing yards, 70 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions, Jones wrapped up his Giants career.

Maybe Jones will be on a contending club later this season and help. For the Giants, that would be the worst-case scenario for what has already been a wretched campaign.
