With Dan Campbell’s club 12-1 and sole possession of the NFC’s top spot entering Week 14, the Detroit Lions are maybe the best team in football.

Following a 1-1 start, Detroit has won a team record 11 straight games and defeated the Green Bay Packers impressively on Thursday Night Football in Week 14. Under offensive coordinator, the Lions’ offense is having another outstanding year mostly due to the offensive line.

Protecting quarterback Jared Goff and clearing running lanes for running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs at a high level, Hank Fraley’s squad is among the most dominating lines in football.

Forming a strong combo with right tackle Penei Sewell on the right side of the offensive line, the 34-year-old inked a one-year, $6 million contract with the Lions during the 2024 offseason and has been among the top cheap free agency acquisitions this year.

Though The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke forecasts the veteran will eventually get some national notice and will be a first-team All-Polish selection, Zeitler is currently much underappreciated.

This season Kevin Zeitler has been a huge boost to Detroit’s offensive line, opening doors for David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. With an 88.5 run-blocking grade, Zeitler is perhaps the finest run-blocking guard in football even if he has let four sacks this season.

He has only turned 13 total QB pressures in 405 pass-blocking snaps. Following Detroit’s starting right guard in 2023, Jonah Jackson signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams in the summer; general manager Brad Holmes chose to sign Zeitler to replace Jackson for a meager one-year contract.

Given Zeitler is playing at an All-Pro level and anchoring the Lions offensive line’s interior along center Frank Ragnow and left guard Graham Glasgow, it could have been the best action Holmes took throughout the 2024 offseason.
