ESPN: Chicago White Sox seals deal ahead of five teams including the Detroit Tigers for Met’s slugger in a $110 million acquisition……

Adding former Los Angeles Dodgers farmhand Andre Lipcius to a Minor League Deal with a Spring Training invite to compete for the starting third base post, the Chicago White Sox made another depth signing.

The Chicago White Sox Sign a Former Dodgers Farmhand to a Minor League Deal

In order for General Manager Chris Getz to flip at the trade deadline next year, the Chicago White Sox so far this off season have been making minor additions here and there in hopes one of them will hit and become a focal point for the team or provide trade value. Starting with signing veteran outfielders Austin Slater to a one-year contract and another veteran outfielders Mike Tauchman who the White Sox signed following non-tendered by cross-town rival Chicago Cubs, the team began with minor-moves.

General Manager Christopher Getz went out and signed infielder Andre Lipcius to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training, and who by all means will be vying for the starting third base post with another move the Chicago White Sox could prove to be a good bargain in the end. Lipcius last year spent time down in Triple-A with the Los Angeles Dodger but also spent 13 games in the Major Leagues for division rival Detroit Tigers in 2023.

Andre Lip Cyrus
Out of the University of Tennessee, the Detroit Tigers selected the 26-year-old Lipcius in the third round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft; he made his Major League Debut on September 1, 2023, going 0-2. Andre Lipcius not failed to wow during his cup of coffee with the Detroit Tigers. Lipcius had 10 hits, one double, one HR, 4 RBI, a slash line of.286/.342/.400, and an OPS and OPS+ of.742 and 105 in just 35 at-bats. Lipcius took those hitting skills and delivered down at Triple-A following his contract purchase by the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 4, 2024.

With 152 hits, 26 doubles, 2 triples, 25 HRs, 89 RBI, for a slash line of.271/.351/.458 and an OPS of.809, Down with the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A affiliate the Oklahoma City Comets Lipcius participated in 140 games. Given that the Los Angeles Dodgers now have Max Muncy signed for this year to be their starting third basemen and have a club option for next year, I do see the Los Angeles Dodgers picking up. There was no obvious route for Andre Lipcius onto the Major League Roster. Lipcius was eventually let go by the Los Angeles Dodgers on December 16, 2024.

Possibility for a Major League Roster position
Andre Lipcius, 26, is exactly what the White Sox are looking for—younger, findable people to see what sort of value they offer to improve the squad. This suits their goals exactly. Third base is most likely the most fierce of all the positional fights the Chicago White Sox have to look out for coming into Spring Training. Andre Lipcius, Miguel Vargas, Bryan Ramos, Lenyn Sosa, and recently acquired Matt Thaiss—who will also be battling for the backup catching role—are the players that shake out for the starting job at third base for the 2025 season.

With demonstrating their abilities to be regularly hitting at the Major League level, Andre Lipcius and Lenyn Sosa have the edge over the other three. Vargas so far in the Major Leagues has a career is a.175 hitter and after coming over from the Los Angeles Dodgers he showed to be even worse only hitting. 104/.217 and a dismal 14 in 42 games with the squad. Regarding Ramos, who is still 22 years old and has not participated in a full season in the Major Leagues, he will have some much-needed freedom to sort things out.

All things considered, this is a quite excellent indication for the Chicago White Sox to have and might break in their favor. Even if Lipcius does not join the Major League Club in breaking camp. Lipcius is on a minor league contract, hence should he fail to live up to expectations and had to be shipped back down to the lower leagues, the White Sox would not have to use any of his Minor League Options (he has two left). Should he break camp with the Chicago White Sox, all that would be required is to add Andre Lipcius to the 40-man roster and, if necessary, make a related action.
