Edwards fined again, promises ‘no more techs’
Anthony Edwards, star of the Minnesota Timberwolves, has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for making obscene gestures toward a game official.
The league announced the penalty on Monday, just before Minnesota’s 120-106 win over Washington. The incident occurred late in the third quarter of the Timberwolves’ 127-125 loss to Memphis on Saturday. Edwards, who scored 41 points in Monday’s game, admitted his mistake, calling it “careless” and “dumb.”
The 23-year-old, in his fifth NBA season and a two-time All-Star, received his ninth technical foul of the season during the Memphis game after being subbed out. Edwards, who had 15 technicals last season, joked that he plans to avoid further incidents.
So far this season, Edwards has accumulated $285,000 in fines for various behavioral issues, primarily for using profanity. This includes a $100,000 fine in December for inappropriate language during a live TV interview, $75,000 for criticizing officiating, and $25,000 for swearing in a media interview. Additionally, in November, he was fined $35,000 for an obscene on-court gesture.
