ESPN Reports: Colorado Avalanche vs. Vegas Golden Knights Game Postponed Following Tragic Incident, Sending Shockwaves Through the Hockey Community….see details
The Colorado Avalanche must save something.
Monday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Avs were pounded with eight goals against as worries about Colorado keep growing. While Justus Annunen is merely one point ahead of Alexandar Georgiev, posting an.872 Sv.%, Alexandar Georgiev has produced an.871 save percentage (Sv.%). via his 13 appearances.
Though a major issue for the team yet, the Avalanche have managed to keep their heads above water during all their injury woes this season. Colorado ranks 30th in the NHL, allowing 3.77 goals per game, while it is 12-10-0 on the year and sits in a wildcard place in the Western Conference.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli talked on Tuesday’s Daily Faceoff LIVE about the Colorado crease and how the team could solve their goaltender problems before it is too late.
Yaremchuk: Alexandar Georgiev, 12 starts this year, has been pulled twice and let four or more goals in four other games. Six of his twelve starts you can see and go; those were poor. Not considerably better is Justus Annunen. Nine starts have seen him withdrawn twice as well.
Starting with four plus objectives is another. Of his starts, thus, 33% have been poor. As MacKinnon remarked (post-game against Lightning) “everything goes in.”
Seravalli: If we are keeping score at home, then nine negative starts result. We are only 22 games into the season, hence that is not really possible. And look, they have been through hell and back with the guys they have been missing, to get through to the other side, for the most part now depending on what happens with Gabriel Landeskog, then not get any stops is unforgiveable.
You can thus discuss the Carolina Hurricanes and their present goalie issue with Spencer Martin being under pressure. The Colorado Avalanche represents the only NHL team with a more pressing goalie issue.
Yaremchuk: Duck John Gibson, Shark Mackenzie Blackwood, Exists someone you search for and then “that’s the guy”? Go get him?
Seravalli: You could presumably scratch John Gibson off the list as the Avs cannot pay him. Mackenzie Blackwood has performed really nicely and is someone we have heard Carter Hutton discuss yesterday as someone who truly needs to see a lot of rubber. He could surely see that in Colorado.
Look, I believe there are very many choices available. Go acquire Dan Vladar from the Calgary Flames, instead? He has been outstanding thus far; he is on our trade targets board. For the rest of this year, the Flames would be equally delighted to have Devin Cooley as the backup to Dustin Wolf. If you are Chris MacFarland, Avs GM, a second-round pick will pay for Dan Vladar to be released from Calgary.
