The Washington Capitals were victorious over the New York Rangers in a game that took place on Saturday afternoon in the nation’s capital city. The final score was 7-4 in favor of the Washington Capitals. Alex Ovechkin, who never seems to get old, maintained his quest for history while he was playing the game.
During the third period, he scored his 872nd goal of his career by beating the goaltender for the Rangers, Jonathan Quick, with a backhand shot that was very impressive overall.
With the current pace that Ovechkin is on this season, he is only 23 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 894 career goals. This record is on the verge of being broken given Ovechkin’s current offensive output.
It was reported by the official Public Relations X account of the National Hockey League (NHL) that Ovechkin is scoring at an even higher rate at the age of 39 than he did when he was at the height of his career. This is an even more astounding aspect of what Ovechkin is accomplishing.
In addition, Ovechkin was out for a few of weeks due to a broken fibula; nonetheless, he has returned and is performing better than ever before.
Alex Ovechkin’s achievements continue to have the Washington Capitals in a state of admiration.

Dylan Strome, a forward for the Capitals, provided an explanation of his perspective from the perspective of witnessing Ovechkin score, which was Washington’s sixth goal of the game, as reported by The Washington Post.
According to Strome, “It just seems like he starts going on these runs.” On that fifth goal, I’m not sure how that could possibly happen. Just goes past their [defenseman’s] legs, then shortly after that, Quick misses with his stick, and then he just puts it in. He is in the appropriate domains. We had a number of opportunities earlier in the game, and we were able to capitalize on them in the third quarter.
While this was going on, the coach of the Capitals, Spencer Carbery, referred to the game as “squirrelly.”
During the third period, Carbery said that it was quite squirrelly. “There are a number of strange plays that begin to take place… There were a number of unexpected turns and twists in that game, and they were some of the most peculiar.
The next game for the Capitals is scheduled to take place on Monday at KeyBank Center, where they will face the Buffalo Sabres. The puck will drop at 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.
