Breaking: The Athletics have just brought a star player back from…..Read more
After being placed on the 60-day disabled list, Paul Blackburn was activated by the Athletics and will now start tonight’s game against the Angels.
There was a spot available on the 40-man roster for Oakland. For the purpose of making room on the active roster, they decided to option Hogan Harris.
For the first time since the beginning of May, Blackburn is in possession of the ball. He had a stress response in his right foot, which caused him to miss two and a half months of work. Prior to the injury, the right-handed pitcher, who was 30 years old, had started eight times.
Through 46 innings of work, he had a 4.11 earned run average. Additionally, his walk percentage was 6.9% and his grounder rate was 47.1%, both of which were somewhat above average. His strikeout rate was 19.1%, which was slightly below average. Blackburn, who has been a control-oriented league average starter for a few seasons, is likely to perform somewhat in the same manner as described above.
When the deadline arrives on Tuesday, the right-handed pitcher will only make one start. Although the A’s never appeared to seriously consider moving Blackburn during the previous offseason, there is a possibility that he could draw some trade interest. Following a lengthy absence due to an injury, which has resulted in a decrease in his value, it is quite unlikely that they will do so.
There is no motivation for the A’s to sell Blackburn at a low price because he is currently playing on a respectable salary of $3.45 million and will be subject to arbitration for the upcoming season.
