Houston won the “Silver Boot Series” with their victory on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the Houston Astros won 6-4 against the Texas Rangers, capping off an exciting series against the in-state and division rivals.

Although the individual triumph was significant, the Astros’ accomplishment of winning the season series was far more so. Houston won the “Silver Boot Series” with their victory on Wednesday.

Following the game, the Astros took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a humorous reaction to their series-clinching win over the Rangers. “If the (silver) boot fits…” the Astros wrote, bringing up their rivalry’s name.

The Astros and the Rangers play in a friendly rivalry called the “Silver Boot Series” each year. A large, silver cowboy boot will be awarded to the team that prevails in the season series.

Since 2017, the Astros have won every Silver Boot Series with the exception of a 5-5 tie in the 2020 season, which was abbreviated due to COVID. Although Houston dominated the regular season, the Rangers may still be able to claim revenge after defeating the Astros in last year’s ALCS on route to the World Series.

On Tuesday, the Astros responded to Framber Valdez’s near-no-hitter with another strong showing. Houston took an early 5-0 lead on home runs by Yordan Alvarez and Victor Caratini, but the game got considerably closer in the sixth inning thanks to a three-run rally by the Rangers.

The Astros took a 6-3 lead in the top of the eighth thanks to an insurance run by Alex Bregman. However, Bregman gave up another run in the bottom of the inning, setting up a save opportunity for Josh Hader, who retired the side to secure the victory.

With the victory, Houston and the Seattle Mariners are now tied for first place in the American League West. The records of both teams are 59-55. The division would take on considerably more significance if the Astros and Mariners finished 59–55, putting them 3.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals for the third AL Wild Card spot.

After losing to the Astros and Mariners, the Rangers fell 5.5 games behind in the AL West. The Astros’ sustained regular season supremacy over the Rangers demonstrated exactly how consistent Houston has been over the past decade or so, even though the Silver Boot Series may not hold the same significance as other rivalries in sports.

Even though they’ve made seven consecutive appearances in the ALCS, winning the tiebreaker over the Rangers must have felt great. They also added another Silver Boot Series victory to their CV.
