There are a few players who will be eligible for free agency this winter for the Boston Red Sox, including outfielder Tyler O’Neill. At the moment, it is estimated that his market value will be $48 million over the next three years, and there will undoubtedly be clubs who are interested in a move of that magnitude.

Although he only played 113 games for Boston, O’Neill hit 31 home runs during his time there. O’Neill was acquired by the Red Sox with the knowledge that he would be eligible for free agency, and there was no assurance that he would return to the team. In spite of the fact that Boston and O’Neill have expressed desire in a reunion, other teams will be involved in the process. Rowan Kavner of FOX Sports has suggested that the Philadelphia Phillies could be a potential landing site.

“It wasn’t that long ago when O’Neill finished eighth in (Most Valuable Player) voting as a Gold Glove 26-year-old outfielder in St. Louis,” Kavner explained to reporters. There was a decrease in his performance during his final two years with the Cardinals due to injuries; but, a healthier season in Boston resulted in enormous power figures when he returned. For example, the Red Sox, the Phillies, the Kansas City Royals, the Detroit Tigers, and the Cincinnati Reds are all strong contenders.

Twenty-four years ago, Philadelphia was in a different position than Boston was. A total of 95 games were on by the Phillies, and it appeared as though they were going to make a deep run in the playoffs. Despite the fact that this did not turn out to be the case, they nevertheless possess a great deal of skill. Considering that the Phillies are in need of an offensive boost in the outfield, it is not surprising that O’Neill’s name was brought up in the conversation.
