Breaking News: MLB Terminates Chicago cubs Manager Craig Counsell Struggles to….see more
One club that has been mentioned as a possible major player in the MLB free agency market is the Chicago Cubs. Fans may be let down once again if Jed Hoyer and the front office don’t act aggressively as they’ve hoped.
The Cubs have chosen to remain relatively silent during the MLB winter for the past several years. It appears highly probable that that will occur again this year.
One reporter disagrees with the widespread belief that Chicago will pull off a major upset.
Marquee Sports Network’s Andy Martinez gave Cubs fans a depressing rundown of the MLB offseason.
The question for the Cubs is comparable: who would be the greatest match? The Cubs have been successful recently without acquiring free agent superstars like Juan Soto or Corbin Burnes, so they probably won’t be looking to add to their roster in that way. Although they may not have been the most well-known options, Jameson Taillon, Dansby Swanson, Seiya Suzuki, and Shota Imanaga have all been valuable members of the Cubs’ roster over the past three seasons.
Although he did say that Chicago will be aggressive in the lower free agency categories, the real question is whether or not those moves will significantly improve the squad.
Even if the Cubs haven’t been able to become National League contenders, Martinez is right that they’ve had some success without signing the best players available.
A team’s overall performance can be enhanced with marginal moves, but they won’t propel them into playoff contention.
Chicago has failed to deliver as of late, and there is currently no indication that they are ready to take a huge leap in 2025.
They need to sign impact players this offseason if they want to be sure they make a stride ahead.
It is highly probable that Martinez will prove to be right in the end.
It is quite improbable that the Cubs will pursue a star player. On the other hand, they will attempt some tangential measures to improve other sectors.
Chicago supporters should brace themselves for what may turn out to be another disappointing offseason with no improvement, although the outcome will depend on a number of factors.
It would be great if they pursue larger deals in the end, but their current track record doesn’t bode well.
