In recent weeks, Jaire Alexander has faced restrictions due to a knee problem, and it appears that the injury is more severe than what the cornerback and the Packers had originally indicated.

Alexander informed Matt Schneidman from The Athletic that he had experienced a PCL tear that could potentially sideline him for a few additional weeks.
Alexander experienced the tear while Green Bay triumphed over Jacksonville in Week 8. He skipped the game in Week 9 and enjoyed a break in Week 10. Following some light training last week, Alexander took the field in Sunday’s victory against the Bears. However, he was only able to participate in 10 defensive plays before being forced to leave the game permanently.

According to Schneidman, coach Matt LaFleur had mentioned earlier that Alexander would have a restriction on the number of plays he could participate in during Week 11. However, it was anticipated that the cornerback would still be on the field for more than just a few series.

During the entire week off, I remained here with the hope of returning and contributing significantly to the team,” Alexander shared with Schneidman. We were unsure because it was a decision made at the last minute. I didn’t find out if I would play in the game until just a few minutes before it started.

“I simply attempted to give it a shot … I ventured forth and, alas, I could only muster 10 plays before I sensed a discomfort. Understanding the functioning of posterior cruciate ligaments is not something that can be accomplished in just three weeks; it simply requires additional time. Upon returning and engaging in just 10 plays, I exacerbated the injury, so now we are focused on restoring my knee to its optimal condition.

Alexander conveyed his hopeful outlook on being able to return to his peak performance level as an All-Pro player for the remainder of the 2024 season. Nevertheless, the cornerback warned that he might require additional rest as he aims to fully recover.

The ex-first-round selection solidified his position as one of the premier defensive backs in the NFL through impressive performances in both 2020 and 2022. Regrettably, his previous endeavors have been marred by injuries. In 2021, he was restricted to participating in just four games due to a shoulder injury, and in 2023, he only managed to play in seven games due to a combination of back and shoulder problems, in addition to being suspended for one game. Alexander also sat out a couple of matches at the beginning of the season due to a groin injury he was recovering from.

Keisean Nixon has clinched the second starting position as a cornerback this season and will maintain his place at the top of the roster while Alexander is sidelined. Eric Stokes received an extended evaluation as the team’s third cornerback, but was surpassed by Carrington Valentine in Week 11.
