Breaking news: Dolphins’ coach McDaniel provides ‘worrying’ update ahead of Thursday’s crucial Packers clash as three star players could be sidelined following…

Dolphins cornerback Kendall Fuller’s concussion and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr.’s hamstring injury will probably keep them out of Thursday’s game against Green Bay (8:20 p.m., NBC).

Fuller is in concussion protocol and will miss his third straight game. Usually, the Dolphins don’t disclose a player’s current stage of the concussion protocol. Over the last two games, Storm Duck has mostly been employed by the Dolphins as their third cornerback, behind Kader Kohou and Jalen Ramsey.

Mike McDaniel stated on Monday that Walker likely won’t be out for much time after he strained his hamstring against New England on Sunday but did not tear it. He probably won’t be able to play on Thursday, though.

On Thursday, Tyrel Dodson and Jordyn Brooks are anticipated to start at inside linebacker. Following Walker’s injury, Dodson performed well against New England and made an interception.

Regarding Dodson, McDaniel remarked, “I can’t say enough about what he’s been doing since he’s been here.” It was remarkable to “be prepared for a moment like that sooner rather than later.”

According to McDaniel, left tackle Terron Armstead recovered well after Sunday’s game. He hasn’t practiced at all for the last two weeks due to a knee issue he has been playing through.

On Monday, McDaniel also addressed the following issues:

▪ After missing two games due to a calf injury, fullback Alec Ingold only played nine offensive snaps in Sunday’s victory over the Patriots. McDaniel responded, “The way the game progressed provided me the opportunity not to play with fire,” when asked if he was on a snap count.

▪ After just two snaps on Sunday, including a mishandled pass with Jaylen Wright that the Patriots recovered for a touchdown, backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was benched. Then Tua Tagovailoa went back to the game. Does McDaniel have faith in Thompson?

“The situation this past game was unacceptable from the whole unit,” McDaniel said, adding that he does. Everything about it, including how we arrived to the huddle, how we executed the plays, and how we gave up points on the offensive play, fell short of our expectations. That ultimately rests on all parties, including the coaches.

McDaniel stated that quarterback Daniel Jones is a “talented” player when asked if the Dolphins are interested in signing him as a free agency.

▪ When asked who has the last say on the 53-man roster—general manager Chris Grier or McDaniel—McDaniel replied that they usually come to an agreement, but that Grier “is the man.”

▪ The Dolphins’ run game hasn’t been as successful the last two weeks, and McDaniel attributed Sunday’s performance, in which Miami ran 24 times for 65 yards (2.7 per carry), in part to the Patriots’ defence.

“When the matchups make sense, you can replace a couple runs with an aggressive quick [passing] game.. but get the ball out quick,” he added. “We’re more adept at doing a variety of things.”
